Needle in handAcupuncture is an ancient healing modality that addresses modern conditions. Based on over 3000 years of careful observation, it has a unique perspective on symptoms and health that is radically different from Western Medicine. As a complement to Western Medicine, it helps the body to adapt to change and stress and increases the activity of the immune system. As a healing modality, it can address chronic pain and other issues that Western Medicine may not. The “side effects” of acupuncture include less illness, better sleep and less stress. By using sterile, disposable needles on certain points on the body, we can affect change on physical and mental levels.

The National Institutes of Health and the World Health Organization have a long list of conditions that acupuncture has been proven to affect. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Allergies and chronic sinus congestion
  • Arthritis
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Digestion problems, including IBS, Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis
  • Women’s health, including PMS
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Headache, including migraines
  • High blood pressure
  • Insomnia
  • Lower back pain and sciatica
  • Substance or Alcohol Dependence
  • Stop Smoking
  • Side effects of radiation and/or chemotherapy
  • Stress

Most patients don’t even feel the needles, and when they do the sensation lasts for only a few seconds. They are much smaller than a hypodermic needle and because they are filiform, or solid, they provide a lot less sensation than getting a shot from your doctor. An acupuncturist can work with you to help you get past this block to your wellness journey.

All BeginnersInitial appointments are two hours, and include a thorough medical and social history, your current complaint and its progression, a Chinese Medical Exam involving palpation of points and range of motion tests. This appointment ends with an initial treatment.

Your follow-up treatment plan will vary based on your individual condition. Usually, we recommend weekly treatments for at least 4 consecutive weeks. We find this gives the best rate of long-term success.

Follow-up appointments will be customized based on your progress and symptoms. We may use moxa treatment, cupping or guasha to enhance the effects of the needles on your condition. We explain all our techniques both at the initial appointment and before we use them. We want you to be comfortable and knowledgeable receiving treatment.

We also provide wellness coaching as a part of every treatment, helping to empower you to be in charge of your health.
